Sight Words

Incoming Second Graders should have the following lists mastered* before the start of the year: Pre-Primer, Primer, First Grade

Incoming Third Graders should have the following lists mastered* before the start of the year:
Pre-Primer, Primer, First Grade, Second Grade

*Sight word mastery means your child can read the words without hesitation (on “sight”). Most sight words cannot be sounded out because they don’t follow regular phonics rules. Working on memorizing high-frequency words (sight words), increases reading fluency and comprehension.
